Crashes are not Accidents
“Accident” implies heavy doses of chance, unknown causes, and the implication that “nothing could be done to prevent it.” Crashes are unintentional, but avoidable.
Bicycle crashes are preventable by adherence to traffic laws, use of proper equipment, and knowledge and skill of crash avoidance maneuvers. More information about bicycle skills training is available from the League of American Bicyclists, or, for bike officers, the International Police Mountain Biking Association (IPMBA).
