Bicycling Prohibitions

Bicyclists are generally allowed on most roads that are not Interstates or other express, limited access roads.

At least 19 States permit bicyclists to use the shoulders of some limited-access express highways outside of urban areas. Signs prohibiting cyclists must be based on a statute or ordinance - otherwise they are not enforceable.
